“We learn best in moments of enjoyments” Meeting#41>>24th February 16<<19:15

Diversity, potential, improvement, effective listening, helping each other to develop these priceless skills in a fun, supportive and positive learning environment
where you can discover about Riga, about storytelling, about Raplh, about the most human profession, about King Arthur and the Round Table
all in a Toastmasters meeting.
Yes, Ralph is Raplh C. Smedley, founder of Toastmasters, and one of his famous quote that was mentioned last meeting was:
“We learn best in moments of enjoyments.
Fellow members and dear guests,
The Toastmasters Program has the potential to raise the personal worth of its participants. How much do you think you are worth? That is a loaded question and has many answers depending on which part of your life is being referenced. With respect to your job, your value is measured in the amount on your paycheck. With respect to your family, the number can jump exponentially. For today, let’s think about the personal worth and value you believe you have as a person interacting with others in a specific area: communication.

To find this value, you would have to assess your ability to communicate effectively on the subjects presented to you, both at work and non-work interactions. How well do you perform when asked to give a presentation at work? Do you choke when asked a question you did not expect?

Some have heard of Toastmasters and some have experienced it first hand in a Toastmaster club meeting. Those who have say it changed their lives.
Debbi Rose Fields from Mrs. Fields Cookies is quoted as saying, “The idea of getting in front of a group, not as Mrs. Fields but as Debbi, made my knees shake. But the Toastmasters group understood. Here’s a place where you can learn, grow, develop — and where other people are doing and feeling the same thing.”

Linda Lingle, former Governor of Hawaii, states, “Toastmasters is the best and least expensive personal improvement class you can go to.”

The host of the Discovery Home Channel’s hit show “Neat,” Hellen Buttigieg. had this to say: “How often in life do people really listen to us? At Toastmasters, people are truly listening; they’re not thinking about what they’ll say back. It’s a safe place to speak, so I could use my speeches to work out what resonated with the audience.”

And you, what do you think about Toastmasters?

Speechcraft! (part 3 of 4)

This is the third part of the four parts of the official Toastmasters Speechcraft workshop! The Speechcraft program allows experienced Toastmasters to present the fundamentals of public speaking to non-members. This workshop will be an integral part of our next club meetings. It will be conducted in four sessions during the meetings.

In the first meeting, we spoke about how to select your topics. In the second meeting, we showed you how to organise your speech. In this third meeting, we will teach you GENERAL AND SPECIFIC PURPOSE of your speeches!

Toastmasters is fun and education in public speaking and leadership. All in English.

This is free for guests – just let us know you are coming so that we can prepare a place for you. For the printed manuals, and the possibility to rehearse your speeches in front of an audience we ask the non-members for a contribution of 40 euros.

Please join us the 11th of November at Talent Garden Torino! We will gather at 19.15 and we will begin our meeting at 19.45. We plan to finish at 21.35.

[Toastmasters][Radiant Rhetoric club] Meeting#31> on 23rd September 15 at 19:15

Fellow Radiant Rhetoric Toastmasters,

What a joyfull meeting!!
This is a common Path. Our own way to… become better speakers when we  build – every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the Month – meetings as pleasant as this one: with a plenty of guests and friends that join a free-judgement environment to develop their communication and leadership skills.
Find me a person that will say no to this kind of opportunity!

Thank you Monica for the amazing theme of the evening you chose!

We had tonight 2 great speakers: Keith & Orlando.
Keith’s book sounded to me quite interesting,
so I added it to my wish list of readings and I suggest you to do the same. Inline image 1

A book transcend many times our perception, enlarge our vocabulary and give us insights about people’s opinions and life in general. Do not wait tomorrow to come: read a book per month -> each evening at least 5 pages and it makes aprox.150 pages/month. 😉 Achievable & simple!

A big THANK YOU is going also to our dear guests! I saw you really love to speak in public: you enriched the tonight meeting. So,
Remember, you are always welcome:
Valentina R.,
Daniele Z.,
Monica A.,
Tunji O.,
Andrea O.,
Julian S.,
Alessandra P.,
Federico B.,
Marinella B.,
Franklin DL.,
Last but not least, a round of applause to our new members:
Alessia DM.,
Marija S.,
Mircea B.
Lastly, I hereby invite all to attend our Speechcraft course. We are running a short course on public speaking at our meeting location aka TAG, on
> 14th & 28th October
> 11th & 25th November

Cost 40€ – refundable against the first membership payment.

Ask us further information:
See you in October!!!

Next meetings, and a new meeting day!

Old and new Friends,

from June 2015, we are going to shift our meeting day from Thursday to Wednesday because we want to catch the opportunity to meet other clubs in the surroundings of Torino.

So our next meeting will be:

  • 27th of May, Election Day, at Area Cafè, via Sant’Anselmo
  • 28th of May, Toastmasters Meeting @ Talent Garden Torino
  • 10th of June, Toastmasters Meeting @ Talent Garden Torino
  • 23th of June, Toastmasters Meeting @ Talent Garden Torino

We are waiting… for you!

Charming eloquence was not built in a day

“We learn best in moments of enjoyment”, said our founder, Richard Smedley in 1924. And I still believe in it. Tomorrow, in Milan our club will join other 3 clubs to have a Speech Marathon. The organizer Xplorers Milan is one of the oldest clubs in Italy (the second in chronological order if I remember well) and it is full of kind people!

Milan, the city of fashion, they say. Milan, the financial capital of Italy, they say. According to the actual concentration of the Toastmasters Clubs, Milan is the TM capital of Italy, I would say! Corporate clubs, English club, bilingual clubs, all is in Milan!

So tomorrow me and Stefano, our newest member, are going to join the other clubs of the north-western part of Italy in this special event! A full half-day of speeches and mutual evaluations, it is a great chance to improve our listening skills!

I am sure we will practise our speeches through the journey! Let’s take some inspiration from here!

…and let’s have some fun!

Thanksgiving Day has been an annual holiday in the United States since 1863.

Not everyone sees Thanksgiving Day as a cause for celebration. Each year since 1970, a group of Native Americans and their supporters have staged a protest for a National Day of Mourning at Plymouth Rock in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Thanksgiving Day. There are claims that the first Thanksgiving Day was held in the city of El Paso, Texas in 1598. Another early event was held in 1619 in the Virginia Colony. Many people trace the origins of the modern Thanksgiving Day to the harvest celebration that the Pilgrims held in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621. However, their first true Thanksgiving was in 1623, when they gave thanks for rain that ended a drought. These early Thanksgivings took the form of a special church service, rather than a feast. In the second half of the 1600s, thanksgivings after the harvest became more common and started to become annual events. However, it was celebrated on different days in different communities and in some places there were more than one Thanksgiving each year. George Washington, the first president of the United States, proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving Day in 1789.

Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal,  it’s a time for many people to give thanks for what they have.

As  members, we have many reasons for gratitude. Some of them:

Thank you Toastmasters for making accessible to such a large amount of people the vital skill of communication. A word of better communicators is a more democratic, inspiring interesting world.

Thank you, Toastmasters to give me the opportunity to do the wrong thing, to receive feedback, to develop myself  and others. To communicate my feelings, my opinion, my world.                                                                                                      Katia

Thank you, Radiant Rhetoric Toastmasters fellows! Thanks for your votary, attitude, friendship, and happiness.                                                                     Monica

I would like to thank Toastmasters for giving me the possibility to improve the message I want to give with the amazing tools of public speaking.        Gonzalo

I am thankful that Toastmasters has gone Global and arrived also to me! People I met great people who are supportive of one another and want to see each other grow & develop into better leaders and communicators. I’m thankful to make mistakes & learn from them in a less pressured environment.                       Luminita

A great celebration

While many Toastmasters become excellent public speakers, this is not the purpose of the program. The purpose of Toastmasters is to help all its members help themselves by learning to speak effectively, and with confidence at any time and under any circumstance.
Executive Director 1958-1967, Maurice Forley

I would like to start this post with the Maurice Forley words. Competent words of confidence. I always wonder what was in the Ralph Smedley mind 90 years ago when he founded Toastmasters International. It was a precious seed towards the future by a visionary man, but I wonder if he knew.

90 years ahead… we had a huge cake for a great celebration with this wonderful theme: confidence through public speaking. About 15 smiling guests and a lot of fellow Toastmasters joined us in the Special Event. We hope to see you again!

We inspire each other to move beyond whatever is holding us back.
What’s holding you back? Be a personal or professional, large or small, we must first believe that we can, and Toastmasters can instil that belief in us if we let in.
International President 2008-2009 Jana Barnhill, DTM
